The D-18 I was allowed to fly a couple of times in Texas in 1999, belonged to David Grabem a former American Airlines Captain, who was a friend of another friend of mine who was an AA captain too ;-) I spent some weeks with those guys in 1999, 2000 and later too, and every day I would be introduced to some new guy with a cool airplane. David let me fly the D-18 (which at one point had belonged to the Governor of Texas) on three flights back then, which was a lot of fun, because we would take it to grass strips all around Dallas …
Taken from the back-seat when we were doing some formation flying recently.
EDDT at night
IFR, night, snow and ice. Lonley atmosphere…
A friend of mine asked me if I’d be interested to join him to bring his new Citation Mustang from Wichita home to Europe. After some thought (3 milliseconds) decided to say yes. Intermediate stops: Syracuse-Goose Bay-Narsarsuaq (Greenland)-Reykjavik. The highlight clearly was Greenland.
Crossing the Mississippi at FL 410
Departing Syracuse
Approach Goose Bay
Approach Narsarsuaq
Narsarsuaq. 50 inhabitants, big runway. My kind of town!
Departure Narsarsuaq. Not sure why that circle on the ice.
Middle of Greenland
Leaving Greenland….
….where looking left you see this
final approach Reykjavik
Apart, impressive pictures!!
This week, I had some nice flights in Germany.
ETSI-EDLN with a very low GS, but great views:
On the way back, great tailwind, 210 kts GS, which is not too bad for a Bonanza.
First three are flight Glenforsa Mull to Glasgow
Cub at grass strip Fife
Windy today
but scenic at 5000ft
Seven Sisters Country Park, near Newhaven:
The South Downs
The Channel Tunnel entrance
Beachy Head from 800ft
The SFD VOR (serious stuff):
Strange patterns under the ground
Brighton Pier; the home of fish and chips dripping with 0W20
A new contraption being built in Brighton (to “compete” with the London Eye) and no doubt hey will be selling 0W20-fried fish and chips there too
This is why Shoreham has a displaced threshold on 02
Le Touquet this morning…felt like summer and managed to squeeze in possibly the last alfresco lunch of 2015!
