A fair % of the non banned ones are people with bogus email addresses, who don’t get posting rights despite being possibly real “aviation people”.
A part of the decision is heuristic, but a lot of it is really obvious and could be automated. It makes me wonder, or actually not wonder, how Instagram manages to be full of bots… but the above are humans, not bots.
I think most of these joinups come back some weeks later and drop in an advert for fake passports, fake IELTS certificates, all the standard stuff we used to get before manual approval was introduced a few years ago.

Incentives ? Investors look at “active monthly users”. Bots are included.
