Airframe corrosion discussion

Can I than the OP for this thread and also for all the posters in response. Despite the fact that these days I usually fly either wood and fabric aircraft or GRP I have found this thread fascinating as well as educational. If there are many more contributions in the current vein IMO they should be collected in a book. I would be happy to buy it.

Thanks Pilot_DAR for yet another great series of posts.
I read somewhere metal kit builders can dip rivets in primer, to obtain maximum protection. Seems like corrosion paranoia

About corrosion in engines, and subsequently prebuys, here is an great article about a real-life, low-time hangar-queen engine.

I have dipped pop rivets in PR1422 when doing the TKS installation. Messy… but cleans up fine after curing. I am sure few people bother because it is messy and you generally have to mix up and then waste a lot of the sealant.

Engine corrosion is a whole new topic. Lots of differing opinions… Some have got lucky, though I suspect that this is either because the hangar queen was sitting in Arizona, or because they never do oil analysis and sell the plane before too long.

Here is some info (especially last third of the doc, types, growing direction, affected regions etc..) about corrosion on Cessnas.

I think salt may be a factor with this type of corrosion.

This is what Swedish roads did to my rim:

For the visual types, some good examples here https://www.casa.gov.au/standard-page/cessna-100-sids-examples
