I suppose that this is the result of rash press publishing. NOTHING is clear yet, least of all if this thing is as harmless as people wish it to be. There is no experience with it, in particular with Long Covid, which plagues many who have had “soft” cases.
It is really not the time yet to start celebrating. Delta still ravages and Omikron is still a very much sealed book.

But if you read the whole article and have the critical reasoning skills to analyse what it actually says, you’ll find that this sub-variant of Omicron differs in that it doesn’t give quite the same unique PCR response, on some PCR machines, that regular Omicron does – a fact which is of zero consequence because genome analysis is used to detect variants, not PCR tests.
Particularly appalling are their weasel words:

I am willing to wager that, with no specifics offered, no-one has actually called it “stealth Omicron” except the journalist.
It’s also a problem that most people now focus on Omicron and forget that the current wave is driven by Delta.
Here it is at this time not the papers which express fear and horror, but the professional health care people who can see their hospitals overflowing within a week or so and who can openly see that their concerns are no longer being listened to. Likewise the expert board of virologists and specialists have been calling for much sterner measures, they are being totally ignored.
Consequently infection, hospitalisation and death numbers explode, despite some token measures imposed, while in the countries that did go “lockdown” the figures are slowly creeping backwards.
I don’t doubt that there will be variants in the near future, which will evade both vaccines and PCR tests. In which case we are pretty much back to square one.
In the mean time, Delta rages on and docs in our hospitals have to deal with people whose only concern is that they won’t get accidently vaccinated in hospital (as if anone was doing that). It is the epithome of human stupidity, egoism and ignorance.
Rage however comes from “both sides” by now. While the conspiracy nuts and anti vaxxers are barking up the trees still, the vaccinated majority gets extremely put off that because of them we have to contend with new lock down measures and see another ruined winter season. It is only a question of time until there will be an open rift between the fractions which I reckon will result in violence eventually.
Now most of us are vaccinated, some 3 times, we have been careful and have put our own needs and desires on back burner, but we are back to a worse situation than even in spring 2000. How not to be frustrated with those who prolong this pandemic with their stupidity and egoism.

Stupidity and egoism? 3 vaccinations. Tests a few days before the flight. Tests the day before. FFP3 mask on the airliner, and on enclosed lifts. Not doing apres-ski (never did that scene). Not doing crowded restaurants. It’s a no-brainer how to not catch this thing. Isolation is not the answer.

Could you explain to me (and perhaps some others here), how one can perceive “it will protect you in 70% of the cases” as just a more detailed version of “It doesn’t protect you at all” ?!?
It’s statistics. Either you are lucky, or you’re not, there is nothing in between. More like God. He will save only those who believe The others are doomed.
Anyway, it’s back to 1m here again. Restrictions on how many can attain arrangements etc. Masks in places where the 1m cannot be held and so on.
At the same time media has definitely gone nuts. No common sense left, only cries and wining for MORE restrictions. It’s surreal, completely unbelievable.

They aren’t reading EuroGA though. Well mostly not; I know of just one pilot who thinks this whole thing is a govt conspiracy. Some more aren’t happy about the social division according to vaccination status; what is happening in some countries is quite new since 1945. Mandatory vaccination itself isn’t new though; we had it for Polio etc and rightly so. So what’s changed? Social media has arrived! I’ve just been for a mountain bike ride and a part of it is under 400kV power lines, specially to neutralise the nanoparticles. It is 3 phase so it does it evenly, with only minimal effect on DNA.

I don’t see what skiing got to do with Corona. Fresh air and physical activity is definitely good for you.
However, going abroad (I guess you are not skiing in the UK ) is pretty stupid in these Omicron times. You may easily end up stranded. Lots of people stranded in SA for instance. You may also end up in a quarantine hotel and so on.
