Corona / Covid-19 Virus - General Discussion (politics go to the Off Topic / Politics thread)

? The Pfizer vaccine has been shown to be highl

I know. Crazy, ain’t it?

And water on the mills for the anti vaxxer crowd. Why bother if you can’t travel anyway.

In Jersey EGJJ travel has opened up completely. Please fly in, you need a day zero test on arrival (free of charge) and performed on arrival

  • If you are vaxxed you are free after a day zero negative test result (normally 6-8 hours later texted to your phone)
  • If you don’t have a vax you are also free after a day zero negative test result but need to take an extra test at day 5

Positive Covid tests are rising but the only two people in hospital are both very old double vaxxed people with lots of other health issues.

Even the local government admitted that this is a disease for the vast majority is treated with Lemsip or Paracetamol

Let’s get some perspective here please. The Delta variant is definitely more infectious but people are reporting that it mainly like the common cold

United Kingdom

Just come for a week’s holiday. Everything is (almost) normal here.

In fact most places I have visited this year have been normal. eg France, Italy etc. Of course if you read the media we are all going to die.

The problem with the Channel Islands – like most of the nicer parts of the UK, right now, due to the extreme foreign travel difficulties – is that accommodation is very hard to find. I’ve just been looking.

Jersey has some dodgy grass parking on sloping grass which I don’t want to risk with the TB20. I would do it if flying with somebody strong enough to shut down on the tarmac and push the plane onto the grass. Guernsey and Alderney are fine but accommodation is even more scarce. I will do one of these next week.

Perhaps you need a woman to bring down the unwanted one… worked quite well here

Few months ago Zagreb’s mayor (aged 66) died of heart attack caused by cocktail or cocaine and viagra (confirmed by autopsy) in company of his young female associate (aged 32). That’s what I call efficient bringing down.

Hi Peter/All

The grass at Jersey Aero Club has improved markedly in the last 24 months. There are no problems with a PA28, PA32, Cirrus and many other types currently parked on the grass. I have been parked up there for 7 years with no issues. In the past there were some mole hills but less/ gone now. If you have really low prop clearance I am sure some Club members would help you push back on the Grass. To be honest I don’t think you would have a problem now but I know why you are super sensitive on the issue based on your unfortunate issue in the past.

Jersey is really open right now and there is a huge amount of accommodation available. Below is a photo of the grass at Jersey Aero Club about 2 hours ago.

Fly in from the UK, free test on arrival and you have to self isolate for approx 7 hours until the first test result is texted to you. We are in the UK common travel area so no testing to go back to the UK.

Interesting. Last time around, they used to test you but allowed you to move around immediately. So a day trip was possible.

Where do you isolate, and what is the procedure if your test is positive?

Sorry, I was giving the worst case scenario. If you are fully vaccinated you don’t have to self isolate – see below

https://www.gov.je/Health/Coronavirus/Travel/Pages/DeclaringTravelHistory.aspx

It is all very easy but the best thing to do is come to Jersey for a few days, masks are not mandatory in shops. Restaurants are open. Business as usual and although infection rates have gone up, hospital numbers are below a normal flu season

Looks like Brits are much more aligned with @Mooney’s ideas than what many believe. In the print edition of The Economist, the title is The Strange Myth of Liberal England. See here (it’s behind a paywall, but I suspect the overlap of Economist readers and forumites to be quite high)

The Economist is a junk magazine these days. I used to read it regularly but stopped ~10 years ago. It’s main use is to pick it up at Gatwick on the way to the plane (for free, IIRC) thumb through it and leave it on the seat. The paper is too smooth to work as toilet paper

The only people in the UK who want a continued lockdown are

  • those with little or no engagement in the economy (broadly speaking, science, academia and other Ivory Tower jobs)
  • some of those working in the public sector (admittedly that is a lot of people)
  • those collecting the massive govt spending on e.g. track & trace (~£30BN so far)
  • other beneficiaries e.g. virus test vendors (hundreds of them, and most are what I would call criminals)
  • those who did well out of the widespread frauds (basically, collecting furlough money while working, usually working full-time as before, so making almost 2x)

Hmmm on reflection you may be right after all, because the last group is ~75% of the country But that would be true everywhere where big furlough money was paid – most of N Europe.
