Great weather this week

I didn’t have to keep the FAA rule, but felt it would be prudent to do so. I found nothing relevant on the CAA site.

I sorted that out for you for someone old & bold like you, I doubt CAA & FAA can offer much advice

But do you have an FAA licence?

If you feel well and fit to fly I don’t see why you should keep yourself from doing so!

And with good weather of course you get this (filter set to under 5000 ft):

I have never before seen a high pressure stick around as long as this one has.

It is now starting to disintegrate, into the usual troughs, but not over most of the UK yet

I was going to fly on Friday. About 20.00 on Thursday, the phone rang. Could I come in for my second Covid vaccination tomorrow, 10.00? Now I’m following the FAA 48 hours before flying rule as I couldn’t find anything on the CAA site.
Only side effect is a strong feeling of unhappiness at not flying, as I look at the weather.

and can’t go abroad…

My Alps trip could have been done any day for the last week or more. I might just have to do another one…

Did Basel-Mallorca the other day, skirting the alps on the west side. Indeed superb visibility, what a joy. I like this launching into a drab Basel 600 ft, 3 km vis soup, and then suddenly break out and see these majestic Alps over a straight layer. It symbolizes flying as an activity to leave the ground really behind you. A nice tailwind to boot, home in 3.5 hours.. The approach into Mallorca was rather cloudy so rather than cancelling IFR opted to get onto the ILS to the main field and then break off to my home base when visual. the usual rant: "Diamond, can you increase speed please, various traffics behind you". Well, afraid these white nosed Brits and Germans had to wait a minute or so more before they could start working on their tan.. My little Diesels can only do so much.

I was in Split on Sunday - it was just great - almost no icing on climb through clouds from Zagreb and then 100 km visibility :) on top. It was minus 12 degrees at FL110 and the engine performed great. Pretty much same situation as shown at this sat image.
