I think that Aviat also make the Husky for IFR.
Interesting thread.
Seems that all the new shiny craft are all two seaters?
Would make sense to separate the list in two vs four seaters?
Off topic posts about airborne radar moved here
An airframe is either authorised for IFR (which can be done wholly in VMC, if one wishes, and with a “plastic plane” one pretty well has to, unless bonded, otherwise you lose the radios, etc) or it isn’t.
More e.g. here.
None of this is related to actual weather capability.
Summary of types (no warranty as to accuracy):
Manufacturer | Type(s) | Seats | FIKI | Type Certificate |
---|---|---|---|---|
Aviat | A-1 Husky | 2 | — | TCDS |
Beechcraft | Bonanza G36 | 6 | Yes | TCDS |
Cessna | 172 | 4 | — | TCDS |
Cessna | 182 | 4 | Retrofittable | TCDS |
Cessna | 206 | 6 | Retrofittable | TCDS |
Cirrus | SR20 | 4 | — | TCDS |
Cirrus | SR22,SR22T | 4 | Yes | TCDS |
Diamond | DA-40 | 4 | — | TCDS |
Diamond | DA-50 | 5 | Yes | TCDS |
Maule | M-7,MX-7 | 5 | — | TCDS |
Piper | PA-28 | 4 | — | TCDS |
Piper | PA-46 (M350) | 6 | Yes | TCDS |
Robin | DR401 | 4 | — | TCDS |
Tecnam | P-Mentor | 2 | — | TCDS |
Tecnam | P2010 | 4 | — | TCDS |
Vulcanair | V1 | 4 | — | TCDS |
Zlin | 242L | 2 | — | TCDS |
Zlin | 143 LSi | 4 | — | TCDS |
I don’t think the DR-400 exists any more, as a new plane. They are all 401’s.
Then there is the Vulcanir V1, but I am not sure about the IFR certification. As usual, they advertise an “IFR cockpit” on their website, but it could be it is just BS marketing speak for a non-IFR certified aircraft…
Edited the table. As far as I can tell, the Vulcanair V1 is IFR certified as its certification basis is from 1956. The Maule’s are the same. Only the more recent certification bases seem to explicitly show VFR Day, VFR Night, and IFR. Somebody more knowledgeable than me might be able to confirm.
SF260?

As far as I can tell, production has stopped. A quick glance at the type certificate suggests it was Day VFR only, except for the turbine version, so wouldn’t have qualified for this list anyway.

Forgot the Tecnams, but not sure which of the singles is IFR certified
The P-Mentor is certified for IFR but a pure training machine, not very fast so less convenient for travelling.

Anybody know the actual cost?
