Hello – looking to do a trip which would involve crossing the main Athens ctr VFR – has anyone got any experience of this? Are they generally receptive to a crossing request?
They are generally receptive to a crossing requests as long as you follow the published VFR routes & Altitudes.
I guess you mean Athens TMA which is also Class D as is the box airspace of LGAV CTR embracing the ILS’s protected area.
Athens TMA has a dedicated FIS frequency 124.025 for VFR transits.
Basically you contact FIS before entering Athens TMA and follow the published VFR routes and altitudes, Depending on the IFR traffic at the time of your crossing you may bargain lateral/vertical shortcuts if they feel you know what you’re doing and won’t deviate close to IFR traffic.
The VFR routes are published under LGAV charts in Greece AIP http://www.hcaa.gr/aip
I attach the 3 pages PDF chart AD2_LGAV_VFR_pdf to spare you from searching.
Note: Future readers of this post; always check for latest chart in Greece AIP. The attached chart is June 2022 version.
Thank you for the reply @petakas
All being well we will make a brief fuel stop in LGMG tomorrow lunchtime routing Larnaka – Rhodes – Megara – Corfu.
