SR22 following Swiss border

Also doesn’t the border pass through the Matterhorn, so you would need oxygen to fly that bit? I don’t think he actually did that.

You can see in the video he climbs up to 15000 feet.

He also states at one point “Approaching Geneva, stealth mode is the applied flying tactic.” which sounds like turning off his transponder

If he would turn off his transponder, how did he show up on FR24?

Yes the precise length could be infinite…

That RV did it by following the GPS map and twiddling his heading bug, so no automation.

To do this in the UK you just take off, fly, get any CAS clearances, and land. No flight plan needed. There are many DAs which would need prior coordination to cross and may have to be done on a weekend (but even then you would need to call. France would be similar and possibly harder unless you know the right numbers.

For an island country, or a country with a piece of coastline, would you fly the coastline, or the 12nm territory limit line?

“I wonder if that was a programmed route flown on autopilot? It should be doable. How would one do it? Obviously you would need a GPS which can take an externally prepared flight plan electronically. What sort of flight plan would need to be filed, if any?”

First, length of the borders is highly subjective depending on inside/outside, measured from the enemy side it is usually 3 times bigger than from the inside

Second, this is easy to do in Switzerland as border is human made and can be mapped on GPS as a 1D dimension line, on the UK coastline that flight plan will need unlimited fuel endurance and RNP GPS with 3.25 dimensions capabilities

I would be careful attempting Norway even with unlimited fuel

If you truly want to fly the border, it will take an eternity.

Question to people from other countries: What kind of plane and how long would you need to do the same in your country? Would it even be possible?

It’s been done before e.g. here is an example of an RV-6 doing it on 18th March.

I wonder if that was a programmed route flown on autopilot? It should be doable. How would one do it?

Obviously you would need a GPS which can take an externally prepared flight plan electronically.
