The standard Lycoming IO540 drain
is horrible. It needs to be wirelocked in the UP position to drain the oil out, which is a hassle.
If you use one of these particular quick drains, operate it very carefully. As shown in the photo it has a small steel ball running in a soft aluminum groove, which is easy to damage if for instance you try to turn and lock the valve open before reaching the top of the groove.
Not that particular style. The one we have looks like a bigger version of a fuel drain and can be locked up in the same manner as a fuel drain.
I have used one for several years and it saves time. It’s a good idea to push some hose on the end so that you can drain into a can on the ground otherwise it gushes forth…

We’ve used a similar drain on a Continental O200 for several years. No problems.
I am using a similar one for a couple of years. Works nice and troublefree.
I am using this one for 8 years on my Rotax powered Europa.
