Dynamic propeller balancing

Has anybody got any recent experience and recommendations of a dynamic prop balancing company in the Southern UK? RGV maybe or Thurrock possibly?

EGKR, United Kingdom

If Aero Services at Thurrock above can do it, I suggest you go there. They are really nice people and they helped me out when I really needed help. They also overhauled my prop.

I haven’t had mine done since the engine swap 2+ years ago because last time I got it done (by the guy mentioned higher up who borrowed the IAE Cranfield parking space) it made no difference, subjectively or in the vibration spectrum. I probably should do a test flight with the kit just to check this…

That’s great info, thank you Peter.

Does anyone have a current contact for propeller balancing, in the UK, potentially someone who can travel to Shoreham EGKA?

I know RGV and Aerotech Coventry do it – but they won’t travel of course

EGTF, LFTF

General Aero Services at Thurrock will do it for you, if you don’t want to DIY.

is the balance not affected at 2500rpm, even though stickers don’t weigh much??

I do not think balancing is such a precise art. I once had half the electric deicer element fly away in flight. Then the prop had some vibration at certain rpm but would operate just fine. So I assume a sticker or some difference in paint does not make a big difference, especially so close to the hub.

Had them on my 3 bladed custom painted yellow MT prop (homebuilt), and peeled them off as soon as I could.
No more nor less vibrations… our Dynavibe field specialist told me the vibes are so low he can’t do anything for me

I have a feeling prop balancing doesn’t do much – except in really bad situations. It is more placebo… here.

Thread drift alert

a feeling prop balancing doesn’t do much

Well, if the prop is unbalanced, I would argue the opposite… or then I would have lost my time during those physics lessons
Not to mention all the props I do balance on my RC models, on which the results are instantaneously demonstrated as positive…
