Mmmhh flying practically always with SD, on a cheap Lenovo tablet (2 actually) I have not observed anything like that.
Could it still be something about GPS reception/interference ?

Or a GPS receiver on the tablet? Had the same issue on my previous one.
No, nothing, and I mean nothing, has changed in either the iPad, its mounting, or the aircraft. It seems periodical, as on some days it is far more pronounced than others. The track line, which I set on distance iso time tick marks, jumps around. No regular rhythm, but erratic changes 10-30° (sometimes even more) off either side of the displayed track. It is actually just a nuisance with which I have to live with (as I do with others 😅).

Dan, I had the the very same thing – same device, just started deteriorating more and, so I had to through it away.
Try a different device? Surely you have a back EFB?! ;)

Yes, I do indeed… only trouble I can’t seem to find it anymore 🙈
Guess the issue will solve when I buy a new one then…
PS
Even using the app Find My shows no result. Either the batt is dead, or the iPad has found its way in clever hands…
I would use an external GPS which talks to the Ipad via bluetooth.
It is just not a neat solution.
Another thing which may be messing with the Ipad are the constant software updates. I get an OS update on my Ipad Mini (used only to run FF) every few weeks, it seems.
I had the track line jumping problem a few times for just a moment or two, and assumed it was due to GPS issues. I’m getting my GPS from the Skyecho2.
I’m happy they added the FPL close reminder! Nice!
It would be an idea @Peter, not 100% sure it is a definitive solution. First I’d have to acquire one, and find a suitable location and power source. This antenna would have to be invisible from any seating position, including its wiring. Then I’m already using a plethora of BT and WLAN signals, which I found were difficult to deal with when using multiple cameras, etc.
No, I’ll probably live with that annoyance since it is not a real problem as such. Any longer than a short local, I do enter the flight plan in the GNX375 navigator, and the indication is thankfully rock solid there.

On the other hand, I assume you know all this…
Thanks @Inkognito.
No, I haven’t tried switching them devices off since they have a higher priority than the wandering track line or updating profile of SD.
I will observe moon phases from now on, as the erratic behavior may well be linked to it 😉
