Sheepskin cover: do you use them ?

Hello,

Due to light wear of the front leather seats of my aircraft, I was giving a look at sheepskin covers.
Doing so, I have read very enthusiastic feedback, about confort and “climate & sweat control”.

I wondered if you had some experience to share.

Of the three aircraft I fly at work two have sheepskin covers and one has bare leather seats. I always try to avoid to fly on the one without the covers… One shouldn’t think so, but especially in summer the (seemingly warm) sheepskin will keep your shirt dry. And in wintertime when one gets into an aeroplane that was parked outside at freezing temperatures the sheepskin is almost like a seat heater.

Me too, they are difficult to get in Europe.

Berlin, Germany

I have spotted two brands: AEROSHEEP and ROCKY MOUNTAIN SHEEPSKIN

As @what_next seems to describe the quality of sheepskin, I wonder why they are so barely used in our light aircrafts…

I suspect European pilots are scared of their maintenance company removing them unless they get a fire certificate.

I had some firewall-certified foam insulation left over and offered to sell it at cost price to another TB20 owner. He was unable to use it because his maint company wanted to see a fire certificate. The stuff being FAA firewall certified was not enough.

However sheepskin covers carry an echo of a 1972 Ford Capri, or Starsky & Hutch, in which sheepskin was used by all the wide boys and drug dealers, respectively

Stimulated by this thread, I have contacted Sheepskinshop who have been very prompt and helpful. They charge £250 per seat including measuring up, VAT and delivery, so excellent value, in my opinion.

They have supplied me with some test certificates from Chiltern Burn Testing Services who specialise in aircraft interiors.

I haven’t seen the actual product, but everything I have seen is impressive.

…but they don’t ship to the UK.

Timothy your link to a UK supplier is not working. [fixed – HTTP was missing]

I have sheepskin covers on my p1/p2 seat. Originally came from sporty’ . My experience is very good. They keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.

EGHO Thruxton

I had aerosheep in the Meridian and they shipped to the UK. Now use comfysheep ones in the Mustang. Woudn’t be without them.
