This almost happened to me, once, long ago. But I wasn’t flying a drone, it was a C152. In Monument Valley.
Approaching a gap between the pillars which stand up to 1000’ above the ground, 70 kts, 10 deg flaps, I noticed a black dot fall from the top of the tower I was approaching. For a moment I wondered if the vibration of my engine could have set off an earthquake. But as the dot fell toward me, I realised it wasn’t a rock, it was a great big bird! I swung round in my seat (the Cessna was one with windows in the back) and saw this huge creature unfurl it’s wings and come after me. If it had wanted, it could easily have caught me in the dive, but instead quite rightly just wanted to chase me away from this tranquil, beautiful mid-winter place.
