Something doesn’t add up. A Kauz is an owl and not a falcon.
It adds up perfectly. Another meaning of the word “Kauz” is “an eccentric”, as in “Er ist ein komischer Kauz”, often applied to the elderly with strange habits.
So a better translation might be “codger”.
It obviously refers to the pilot, not the aircraft.
