How does a P8-A cause a sonic boom?

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/scots-anti-submarine-plane-takes-26235830

Usual journalistic inaccuracy? I fail to see how a P8-A (based on a very much subsonic Boeing 737) causes a sonic boom, at least not while remaining in one piece. I didn’t hear a sonic boom here, either (it was supposedly heard in Merseyside, so we should have heard it here).

I can’t be the only one who mistakenly read PA-28 on the thread title, and was even more surprised, right? Just me? Ok then.

Doesn’t the P8 carry bombs and mines and missiles and whatnot. Maybe it was a boom from a bomb ? Also sonic btw
