25 July Sun
26 July Mon
27 July Tue
28 July Wed
29 July Thu day on which Mr Osranek says he emailed the airport

I am not seeing any change in the opening hours for the planned departure date of Friday 30th July.

However, “stayed 4 nights” does not correspond with “24-30 July”. If he arrived 24th July, and stayed 4 nights as stated in the screenshot, but planned to stay 5 nights, then we would have planned to depart on Thursday 29th July, and it is correct that the 0300-0530 Thursday slot was removed in the 30th July notam. But the 1100-1530 slot remains.

However, 30th July is after 29th July, and the 30th July notam would not have been effective on the 29th July…

I also do not understand “I would not have been able to leave for days” given that the airport is open 7 days a week. Was the airport closed totally for several days, after 29th July?

We need somebody reliably informed to shed more light.

It seems the NOTAM Mr. Osranek read was in fact issued the same day, but a different NOTAM with essentially the same information was issued two weeks easrlier.

ESKC (Uppsala/Sundbro), Sweden

Can you find a notam showing the THU 0300-0530 slot missing, dated 29th July or earlier?

We know that such a notam was issued on 30th July, time 0723 UTC. Of course it would be wrong to notam a change to opening hours at 0723 on the day of the change but it is possible; I have seen that due to say a staff shortage. One of the tricky areas in aviation…

Whether “I would not have been able to leave for days” is true, let me not prejudge that, since I know somebody will be digging into this whole thing soon.

I am reliably informed that the above posted report on LGKC is very far from the true story.

Maybe this poster can help us?

This is funny. I am planning Kithira LGKC – Sitia LGST. Possible only 2 days a week, or 3 days with a very fast plane

But Greece has always been like this… all trips around Greece involve working out timetable overlaps. The usual solution is to mix in a “bigger airport” which has more normal opening hours. For example here we did a stop on Karpathos, between Sitia and Kastelorizo.

What could be done? An untowered departure is the most obvious way, but in Greece? Probably absolutely impossible. It is impossible at most airports in Europe.

I am reliably informed that the above posted report on LGKC is very far from the true story.

Could you finally share what your reliable information was? Would be useful to know if it was just a cockup by that guy or if the airport really changes opening hours at short notice.

Mainz (EDFZ) & Egelsbach (EDFE), Germany

The guy chasing this matter has been on holiday. I have reminded him. I know a contact was made with the LGKC manager who got very upset about the inaccuracy (and made some other comments) and was going to sign up here and comment but obviously he has not done so (yet). Could be that it is the “tripadvisor situation” where businesses just can’t be bothered to spend their time replying to bad reviews (but they should!).

It often happens here on EuroGA that somebody tells me something, I post it, get hammered for it, and the guy who told me then vanishes, or refuses to authorise me to post photos which prove what I had posted

The guy’s report is obviously inaccurate in the claim “I would not have been able to leave for days”. To me this discredits it totally. Who would write something like that online?

I am planning LGKC now, for early Sep, after the Italy meet-up.
