New UK airfield... first in 30 years... just for GA

For once we are adding an airfield, rather than losing one…. but this
needs your support.

Plans for a new airfield in East Kent, near Deal, have been submitted to
Dover District Council. The new airfield, ‘Little Mongeham’, will be a
750m grass strip on free draining chalk, so all seasons. Normal Airfield
facilities, along with 3 phase charging for battery powered aircraft to
be available. Ideally placed to launch your cross channel adventures,
whether UK or Europe bound.

Hangarage for 20 GA planes and tie down space for visitors, a Flight
Office with internet access, refreshments and toilets. Ten on-site
lodges for overnight stays, a decent nearby Pub, Deal and Sandwich an
easy cycle and for walkers, the White Cliffs Country Trail.

The planning submission can be viewed at Dover District Council Planning
Department,

Application Reference 21/00626

Please read the application and if you ‘Support’ it, please say so using
the online form.
Each of your written ‘Supports’ will make a difference.

Read about all the polemics on Flyer. What pilots from the continent maybe be more interested in: Which might be a likely timeline??

Good luck anyway. It‘s a great location. Eastern Kent NEEDS a new proper airfield!

Good location for it

Everybody should support it!

A local woman started a FB campaign to kill it off, but most of the comments were in favour of it, which was quite funny

The application is for just 10 movements per day which is hardly anything.

Brave of them to go for full planning at the outset, but IMHO this is the right way to do it. Previous thread discussing things like the UK 28 day rule.

Great news !!
Will it be accessible from mainland (I mean regarding GAR etc….) ?

Well, they will need a CoA for that, but that should be the smallest problem I guess.

They are planning to be fully operational in spring 2022.
Of course this depends on how the Planning Application proceeds. Also there is half a season required to establish the grass runway.

Yes! very much so. One of the intentions is to provide a GA friendly place to enter and exit the UK

Can you comment on the planning proposal if you don’t live in the UK?

I believe so.
