Corona / Covid-19 Virus - General Discussion (politics go to the Off Topic / Politics thread)

This is a curious site for estimating the CV19 hazard in a given situation. Not sure how one enters the current numbers in the area, however.

After Norman’s post I now personally know two people who have had CV19.

Living in the countryside. The most dangerous thing that can happen is Midsomer Murders

BTW I personally know people with whole spectrum of Covid-19 severity from asymptomatic to ones who struggled for weeks with high temperature to one who was on the ventilator (luckily recovering now). None of them had any previous illness, none of them was obese or had high blood pressure or had any known risk factor. However, age seems to be prevailing factor in severity.

Living in the countryside.

Yes; clearly that’s true. Those who have to work etc close with others, and those with children and other youngsters at home, will all eventually catch it, unless vaccinated.

Just got this from one ski company:

With 15 languages in 4 open, snow-sure Swiss resorts, our instructors are
ready for you. There is NO quarantine to enter Switzerland from most
countries. The UK quarantine is dropping to five days upon return. This
most unpredictable of winter seasons is slowly starting.

Skiing and snowboarding are naturally distanced. If you’re coming to
Switzerland, please rest assured we and everyone in our resorts are taking
it very seriously.

Coming to Verbier, and worried about getting into Telecabines? New, for
this winter, with a full-day private lesson, ES will include a private taxi
to take you from your accommodation in Verbier to the slopes in the
morning. We suggest starting at Carrefour, and from there you can ski down
to the open chairlift at Mayentzet, avoiding closed lifts. In this way,
you avoid public buses where you are in contact with other people, and you
start at a location where you can take an open lift in the fresh air.

We are also temperature checking all lessons as an additional precaution.

Lessons have been running in Zermatt since June on the glacier and since
late October in Verbier over the weekends. From next Saturday, Verbier
opens daily until the end of April.
Many Swiss-based skiers are re-discovering their own winter resorts. We are
the first Swiss ski and snowboard school to export our formula to
France. If you’re looking to try an instructor in Switzerland for the
first time in a few years, give us a go. The times they are a-changing.

In our French schools in Val d’Isère and Chamonix, the lifts are closed for
Alpine sports until mid-January. Why not trim-down after Christmas with
some Ski-touring or nordic skiing lessons? Or come to one of our Swiss
resorts and bring your booked lessons and instructors with you, we’ll
happily sort out your French instructor with a Swiss work permit and – if
you need it – help you find some quality accommodation within our network
of trusted resort partners.

Excellent news.

As a white heterosexual male, I am an endangered species, heading for extinction in the Brighton area, so I am hoping to get in early so I can go skiing

We might start to see a new form of tourism: vaccination tourism.

If some countries drag their feet or insist on the usual long winded trials, people might as well start to try to get it elsewhere.

No chance then.

I have heard the skiing in Chile is pretty good and up and coming – running from June to end October. Might be a tad far for the 20 mind you, or a tad long via the Americas and down the East and then West coast, but this would be some adventure.
