Temporary Schengen "suspension" around Europe

I don’t see why they don’t publish a NOTAM for an exceptional rule like this. Dijon has no special notice in AIP (this is the airport where both pilots were fined).

Yes it’s a power abuse from airport customs (unjustified fine) & airport operations (no NOTAM)

Here is a rule of thumb: there are few “private ops/handling/security” running some regional airports, sort of new sherif in town in few airports called Edeis, they like to be in the loop before any GA flight arrives on their base, unlike in the old days when airport was taxpayers asset managed by CCI, these guys can’t put their hands on national flights aside from some trivia of “bâtons dans les roues” (e.g. forcing you to use main terminal gate, 150€ for not wearing high-viz, use their method of payment or charge 20€, back and forth with ID cards) but an international flight that turn up out of the blue without telling them (on phone, email or some website) will look very easy and will get sent to police & customs, so they invent new requirements & something missing with all the horror from sanitary crisis & terrorism acts there is enough “pour remplir le coffre”

If you skip these guys make sure everything is in good order: just like flying to Marrakesh without handling or Greece to Egypt without the right agent, you will get all sort of troubles & inventions, including that pop-up NOTAM for your specific flight…pity one has to deal with these traditions in Dijon

Oh, I’ve done that and it was good fun getting escorted past a BA crew at security and then walking to my airplane ahead of them. They were parked in the next stand on the line. C172RG vs AB320

Without handling, you will be treated like “alien” instead of “vip” or “crew”

I think now it’s the only restricted airport down there, the others you can just fly without asking anyone just valid ATC FPL and check they have fuel, but for Marrakesh you need “manager permission”, to get one you will likely “need the handling”, if you get one without handling you get into all sort of back & forth which makes the trip interesting and fun but will spoil any urgent plans you have that day !

Again, I think that really depends on the Airport. The EDEIS crew at LFLP are fantastic, and despite paying the landing fee (which is 11 euros so nothing extortionate either) don’t require handling and are honestly fantastically helpful.

Of course there are exceptions but I doubt a Dutch pilot with non-based aircraft can fly there without telling EDEIS before his takeoff?

If he wants to fly “without telling anyone”, he can land at Lille or StOmer, in StOmer he will not see anyone, in Lille he will get sorted by some nice ladies who do mandatory GA handling (even for someone turning out of the blue) and meet up the friendly permanent C&I officers (you will have to see them, even from Netherlands or France)

In Winter it is Notammed when PPR is required. Otherwise, you file your flight plan and you go… Extra-Schengen requires PN – there is a form for this, however it is missing information. (don’t ask me who I know ;-)) of what is required by French Customs.

But if you use just the form and do not provide things like passport numbers etc. you get an email from customs that goes something like this (or maybe exactly like this ;-)

Merci de vous conformer aux obligations de l’arrêté du 24 octobre 2017.

Looks like a nice & friendly place to visit again, sadly the last EuroGA flyin to LFLP did not materialise ;)

I was looking to land there once to/from Sion but I was too lazy to send anything the previous day, so I flew via Annemasse (LFLI) on both out/return with 2h PN, some lady at the reception desk did put a fake police hat and told us the guys from Lyon are not interested to see us before arranging a quick flight to Megeve on aeroclub fleet for few TnG with a local FI
