Since Dan didn‘t fulfil his duty to create the appropriate thread 😂, here we go…
Flew to Le Havre for a couple of days of eat & drink in Normandy. Always a beautiful aprroach.
Anyway, off to the essential stuff:
By the way, had a bit of tailwind both on the outbound and return flights.
Passed directly over EHAM going home.
And as usual, got the least expensive Avgas of all of Central Europe, before heading home to EDHL.
Did I hear cheap Avgas? Where?
It still is (and has been for quite some time) Rendsburg-Schachtholm EDXR.
Cheaper Avgas can be found only in North Macedonia and Serbia, as well as the Channel Islands and in some places in the UK if taking advantage of the duty drawback, but I wouldn‘t call any of them „Central Europe“.

You’re doing good @boscomantico, this is perfect 👍🏻😉
And thanks for the mini-report, never landed there, looks appetising enough for a sortie.
Did a mini local sortie too, yesterday. The private field of La Côte LSGP, 490m grass runway with obstacles either direction, has a restaurant that offers the best lemon pie in the country (pschhht, that’s a well kept secret). No picture of that pie, but a short LQ vid of the ensuing TO returning home, turn-up the volume 🫨😇
I did a day trip to Liège EBLG. An expensive experience, but I had a reason to be there. A slightly tedious experience getting Avgas 100LL – firstly fuel is only served on a different apron to the parking, and then the fueler indicated that I could pay the bill via the handling agent, which turned out not to be correct. So ensued a long process to get back airside to go to the airport office to pay. The handling agent could not escort me; I needed a visitor pass because I did not have a crew pass – this obviously involved paperwork.
Another one of these places where the police do not stamp passports for ‘crew’.
Anyway, the flying was fun / straightforward.
See the database entry for costs/handling details.
Very hazy just to the south of London – this is between Fairoaks and Biggin Hill at 2,300 ft.
Approaching Dover, having left controlled airspace at KONAN for the rest of the flight ‘out of the system’. Makes sense – staying Eurocontrol IFR means a long detour around the south of the LTMA via the Goodwood area to get back to Fairoaks.
Reasonably windy – turned into a nice tailwind over the sea.
Overhead Brussels EBBR at FL070, just below the cloud layer and at the freezing level. Traffic was arriving on the ILS for runway 19 below me.
As I often remind, if the 1st post is big, the thread can’t be promoted to the home page banners and gets very little participation.
After some teaching and a “lunch meeting” yesterday I did a little excursion (and refresher flight) to the land of the Switzers with one of my WT9 co-owners today.
Feldberg in the southern Black Forest
Switzerland is always good for some nice views
Some weather is moving in from the southwest.
Bressaucourt, a nice little field with very friendly people.
Southern end of the Vosges at the horizon
Lunch break at Grenchen
Departing Grenchen to the east
Returning into the Rhine valley
I have finally finished wiring my panel
As the panel is only held in with six screws, it seemed sensible to have a quick disconnect for the panel wiring. Therefore everything is routed through a 41 pin Amphenol milspec connector, except the audio which has its own connector to avoid noise issues.
First power up in the plane… all working. Next is to do the engine sensor wiring and the lighting controller, then I’m done. The panel will need to be painted too.
Final stretch of PPL training for me, to iron out all the little (and big) stuff that is asked on the exam:
Things are getting ironed out little by little. But I find the program is quite extensive, and during the test you need to be able to mobilize all of it on the same day, which is a steep difficulty increase compared to instruction flights that focus on one thing at a time ! Even solo navigations are easier, because there is so much preparation and during flight you simply unfold. Retrospectively, if I were to start anew I would definitely adopt a more packed training schedule in order to stay warmer (some of these exercices I initially did a year and a half ago).
