US approach charts - RVR

On some US approach charts there are “interesting” minima.

For example Ketchikan/PAKT the minimums say “RVR 40 or 3/4”.
I’d read 3/4 as statue miles. But what does “RVR 40” mean?

funny you mention PAKT since I was there like 4 weeks ago, and almost had to shoot an RNAV since the morning clouds were dissipating only slowly…

The RVR is given in 100’s of feet, e.g. 4’000

Thanks – thought something like this but wasn’t sure.

P.S.: have been there 3 weeks ago and fortunately the weather has not been so bad that RVR was an issue. I just had to do 3 circles in the hold to give way for an F-15 that was low on fuel and later was refueled next to my parking position on the apron ;-)

Good one

Here a shot of the wx whilst enroute from Juneau. As to why we don’t have that system working in EU beats me… like the rest.
