There are several issues.

This is not the first time, another airplane (an Aztec) got sprayed a few weeks ago elsewhere.

First of all: Where the hell is security?

We have to pass security tests, we have to show badges and authorize our way to the apron, and those bozos get completely unrestricted access carrying dangerous goods such as spraycans and so on?

Particularly in Westerland but also on other airfields we are paying for handling which we don’t want in order to avoid unattended folks on the airfield?

WTF? How can those guys access the apron and do those things? We are not talking of small grass runways here but of airports such as Berlin and Westerland.

Secondly: How is this reported in the press? The above article titles “now the climate glue folks target the super-rich” while the text shows not few Schadenfreude and obvious glee. Most of the press reacts the similarily.

WTF? Owning a Citation or an Aztec means you are super-rich? What about small private operators who use such planes, not to speak of medical transport companies, which use similar airplanes? And what kind of justification is that anyway? Being rich means you are free for all to be attacked and shot down?

According to reports, the perpetrators will be prosecuted on various counts and I do hope the owner of the Citation or his insurance will sue them for every penny they own for the damages they did. Quite possibly this may be the larger punishment for those involved, if they will have to pay off the damage they did for the rest of their miserable lifes.

Yes; the Aztec was sprayed here.

It’s been suggested that the protesters should have their driving licenses removed That way they could practice what they preach.

Getting that paint off could be expensive, unless it is emulsion. Especially if the windows are plastic.

100% for suing the bastards, but you will have a job finding a lawyer because the legal profession has a high % of right-on characters. And they are usually without tangible assets.

But it may be “criminal damage” in which case the police should be interested. Oh, wait, I forgot that … The police don’t like doing that either. A private prosecution would be the way in the UK, but that’s expensive.

I guess if anyone sues them it will be the insurance covering the hull damage. And they will have huge organisations going after anyone who destroys property in this way.

The more so, if that is how they did it, then both Berlin and Westerland need their security clearance removed untill they find out how to keep people who are not authorized out.

IMHO, an insurance co. won’t touch it because the moral high ground was hijacked years ago by the activists – along with all the other trendy topics. We are witnessing a comprehensive hijacking of society’s “kindness to all”.

The insurer’s executives would get bricks through their windows at home. That is how it works today.

So the threat of bricks through their window works to deter them from taking perpetrators to the cleaners?

Heavens… and I got called a wuss for being concerned about Putins nukes…..

If that is what, then all of us who write about this would have to expect similar retribution.

Somehow it appears however that this kind of senseless destruction as well as the guys who glue themselves to roads now get problems with their “own” parties… who in part have realized they loose vorters over stuff like this. Whatever it takes, those guys be taken into responsibility. Because if not, you bet that we will have to start fencing in just about any airfield you can imagine and keep it guarded 24/7. You can imagine the consequence….$$$$$$$

Insurers are cowards.

But their execs have families too, and protesters are well organised (by their leaders, over whatsapp) and are extremely aggressive.

A friend had an employee – a travelling salesman. He was caught for faking his business mileage numbers by using the car privately, for years. He was fired. He sued, claiming that nobody explained to him the difference between business and private travel. No, he wasn’t selling IQ tests

The employer liability insurer instructed my friend to cave in and pay up (£20k).

This is pure business, not making some moral point. It stinks of course, but to go further would take this well off topic, in today’s times

It looks like their is paint in both engine nacelles. Would that result in both engines being a write off?

If so, that is very expensive criminal damage and probably would result in a custodial sentence if prosecuted.

An Aztec just ordinarily rich (a MEP is awfully expensive to operate) but if you’re an individual owning a Citation, which costs upwards of 700K a year to run, I think this fairly fits the definition of super rich when you can spend effectively the equivalent of 7 senior software developer salaries (who themselves are considered fairly rich) per year on your plane.

They got in by cutting the wired fence with a bolt cutter. As they filmed themselves, you can see it here:
