Bye AN-225

There’s an appeal for donations with bank details on Antonov’s Facebook page to resurrect the AN-225 (scroll down to 25 March). I read somewhere else they need an estimated $3bn.

This caught my eye in the background because it looks like SAA livery. SAA was the Scandinavian Aviation Academy, now OSM Aviation, where I did my FI in Västerås Sweden. And indeed, the aircraft was previously an SAA trainer. I wonder if it is ruined.

The whole thing makes a lot of people very very sad and angry. It may also spell the end for Antonov as a airplane manufacturer, if things continue as they do. All their manufacturing and engineering is near Kiev.
