Back from Africa

Great report!

Your question; Tanger Tower cleared us to cross the active runway all the while a Ryanair 737 was landing. He rolled out when we passed the extended centerline. I don’t consider this a very safe clearance. Is this common at all??

From what I can see, it seems quite ok. If I want to cross the CTR of Schiphol/Amsterdam at e.g. 1500 feet or 1000 feet, I also might see aircraft landing or taking off below me.

I am sure you enjoyed the adventure! And thanks for your updates.

Thanks Aeroplus

We were not overflying though. We were about 1000m west of the runway…

Oh,I guess he just wanted you to fly the standard overhead join

Sorry, couldn’t resist….

Anyway, great trip, great write-up, really enjoying reliving some of my own trips vicariously through you!

Back from Africa – Day 8 – Bordeaux-Lille
Yesterday we flew the last flight of our journey Dakar-Lille. This time Fred was pilot in command and he surprised me with a beautiful flight over the Médoc (wine!) and Oléron (oysters!). We then cruised in an almost straight line home while we avoided some rain showers. After nearly three hours we landed at Lille, where our other flying friends were waiting for us and where could share first impressions about this wonderful adventure! Papa Charlie has behaved beautifully. And although this trip for Aeropostale of Saint-Exupéry and Mermoz was very risky, navigation is easy: keep the sea to your left, and the sand to your right and you will get there. I want to thank Fred and Bruno for the joy of flying together and their pics, and my family for their patience. And thank you for the many reactions.

Back from Africa – The Landings !

On day 4 of our VFR flying adventure from Dakar to Lille, we flew from Dakhla to Tan Tan in the south of Morocco (GMAT). This is my first landing of this trip. Fred is filming. Our plane is Papa Charlie (F-HRPC), a Piper Turbo Arrow III. We are landing on runway 03.

Back from Africa – The Landings (2/3)

Day 7 of our VFR flying adventure was a busy day: first a flight from Marrakesh (GMMX) to Jerez (LEJR), then a nightflight to Bordeux-Mérignac (LFBD). This is the landing on runway 20 in Jerez. There was a slight crosswind from the right. Fred is filming.

Back from Africa – Night landing ! (3/3)

This was probably the nicest landing of the trip and one of those to remember for a long time: a night landing on runway 23 in Bordeaux-Mérignac (LFBD). In the video I indicate how the various stages unfold. It doesn’t show the taxiing but that part was on the edge: my landing light didn’t work and taxiing is difficult without, certainly with a A320 on my tail.
Fred is filming again.
