but someone like Garmin isn’t going to bother with that because they don’t even make a DME.
They might not bother with the GI275, but many of their other products can interface with DMEs – both for channel selection and distance readout.

At a cost GAD43E etc…basically you need to go full Garmin

A G1000 can interface directly wih DMEs. I would guess that is also true for their other integrated panels.

Better then wx500. No neeed additional display, just work with GTN/GNS
I assume you mean without heading input to the WX500? AFAIK the GNS won’t output heading on RS232 to the WX500.

It will, but only if the GNS is already receiving heading on RS232 from another source such as a Shadin ADC200, or over 429 from a Sandel or similar EHSI
Are you sure it sends heading and not just track?
However the WX-500 IM indicates that RS232 track input will also work, but it is just not the preferred method.
It looks like this product line is following the same path as Sandel. L3Harris sold the Stormscope product line to Extant Aerospace who now provide support, but rumoured to be for a hefty price…. per Beechtalk they quote $7000 flat rate for WX-500 repair. Is there a trend here?
