Where to land in Budapest?

Hi,

From what I can see, landing at Budapest’s main airport is not such a good idea on a VFR SEP mission.

There’s a number of smaller airfields in the vicinity. Anyone has any recommendation on which is to choose for a night’s stop over in Budapest on our way further south?

Thanks

Patrick

I was in Ferihegy LHBP half a decade ago, VFR SEP. No problem at all, except that the final bill made you think you bought the airport

Yep, Ferihegy has become very hostile with sma GA with their fees. Mind you, it was rather expensive even 10 years ago.

Budaörs if you want grass or Tököl if you want hard. Budaörs is much closer. There’s even a couple more airfields in the vicinity.

Ferihegy is ok for bizjet ops, but I would probably stay away with a SEP.
I love the 50m bus transfer from the terminal to the aircraft….

If you don’t need a night in Budapest, then Pogany airport in Pecs is a good option

Pecs is in the South, very close to the croatian border.
I’ve been to Budapest and Pecs (both by car :( ) and must say, Pecs is a very nice city to visit.
I never landed at Pogany but it’s a very nice, new and not busy airport. Only a few charter flights to greece I believe.
Let me know if Pecs will be your option, I know a few good hotels.
