Looking for a replacement for a mechanical standby ASI for a Piper Comanche.
It may be used if it comes with Form 1 or 8130 double release.
Where would be a good place to look for it? There must be a lot around as lots get replaced by digital devices.
Winter seems to be a reasonable source for new ones. But they don’t have that “true airspeed calculator disc”. Does anyone know if this is a requirement to have, that maybe depends on the certified ceiling?
How much is a brand new one from Piper? ASI is quite an important instrument so if you get an old one, the avionics shop maybe spends hours on calibrating it etc. So getting a new one might be not so bad if the are available? I have flown aircraft with sub standard ASI and I hated it… If you need a pre owned one call up the big avionics shops like Straubing, Port Air Service etc. doing many glass cockpit conversions. They must have shelves full of old instruments.
The thing is the airspeed markings. You need them correct for your exact make and model. Sure, a shop can temper with the markings on a different model ASI using tape etc., but it usually looks terrible after that.
What exactly is wrong with your old indicator? Nobody can fix it?
Yes @Sebastian_G and @boscomantico both good points.
I was opting for replacement to minimise downtime.
