Solar eclipse anyone?

Almost a year later, my wife has written this up on her blog: http://www.womenonthewing.com/2015/12/04/faroes-eclipse/

Really was an incredible trip!

@jwoolard, EmilyJayne’s blog is extremely catchy! I’ll forward the link to my better half.

LFPT, LFPN

Not the toy twinjet type of Eclipse, but the solar one… ( https://www.greatamericaneclipse.com/ )

(Couldn’t start a thread in the “Meet-ups” section, so I went for “Trips & Airports” instead, although in my case Mr. Lufthansakapitän is going to handle the controls instead of me.)

The event is about a month away now (August 21st) and I am wondering who else is going to attend? We will stay in a town called Torrington, WY the night before and tour some national parks for the two weeks to come – but in a car, not in a plane – too much hassle to get another FAA validation for my license and sort out renting in the US.

EDDS - Stuttgart

I took my son and daughter in law to see the last one – 5,000’ up in the Aztec, just north of the Faeroes.

But that is not enough for them and they are off to Yellowstone for this one.

Seems a long way to go to not see the sun

EGKB Biggin Hill

I may be going, flying up for the day from L.A., but nothing fixed yet. Would prob90 do a day trip to Oregon or Idaho, AFAIK no chance of getting a hotel room during that time!

Assuming I get the RV registered and certified in time, then I hope to be heading for Smiley Creek, Idaho. The strip is about 7000’ AMSL with clear approaches and a camp site and close to the centre of the eclipse path. It’s difficult to know how many others will have the same idea. Hopefully there’ll be room for all of us.
