Around 15 people made it, which is pretty good considering the challenging weather situation. A few more got stuck on the way.
I now have somewhat fewer EuroGA t-shirts to bring back
Thank you all
I understand that a lot of those traditional buildings (see pics above) are replica ‘re-builds’.
I went there on a previous occasion and that seemed to be the case.
There was not much city centre left after 1945.
An amazing achievement.
The only “replica” is the Frauenkirche, it was a rubble heap in the middle of the market square until the German reunification. The dark sandstones are original from the rubble heap. Rebuilding that church was one of the biggest projects of the reunification. The Frauenkirche is in a close partnership with the Cathedral of Coventry.
We’re lucky that Dresden was considered to be a remote territory by the GDR (called the “valley of the clueless” because it was the only place without reception of Western TV) and that there was not enough money to rebuild everything according to socialist standards.
The other historical buildings were mostly repaired during the GDR time.
I guess 80% of Germans think the opera house (Semperoper) is a beer brewery because for decades it was featured on the TV commercials and ads of the best known East German beer.

Did not really know all that – think I should have said many of the buildings have been substantially re-built (with great skill).
Video of EDDC departure in EC120B helicopter:
Sorry not to have been there. Still, Munster / Osnabruk EDDG were very accomodating, huge airport where we were one of 6 traffic all day, very pleasant personnel and very affordable. One thing to avoid is car rental at the airport, 141 Euro for one day! Glad you all had a good time.
PS how many aircraft made it?
I am back home now…
It would be great if those who didn’t make it drop me a line and I can sort out their t-shirts by airmail. Unfortunately I have lost track of the names and nicknames I do know that those who didn’t make it were mostly XL and XXL.
It was a great meet-up. I think almost 20 people made it. The last two were around on Sunday evening. I don’t know how many aircraft; Justine and I came by airline.
