Guns are not legal in the park – and they scare me! I carried a flare gun, and many rounds of flares. This is the recommended deterrent. I asked my host: If you have to fire a flare to deter, do you fire pas the bear to scare, or at the bear to cause harm? His answer: It depends upon how fast you can reload. I practiced down my runway on a rainy day.
There actually has been a shortage of Avgas in Iqualuit. When we went through there was none at the refueller and just two very expensive barrels in the FBO. More important if going there is actually to bring mosquito repellent. They are the biggest I have ever seen in my life.
