Denmark & Sweden from UK

Hi

First post ‘Hello’

We are going to Denmark & Sweden in a week in our RV7. We have a specific visit to Copenhagen set for a couple of days but nothing else really planned.

So, where are the good places we should fly into? Where should we stay over?
We have a couple of weeks and nothing pressing to get back for :-)

I’d like to visit a couple of air museums. Have done Stauning (which is excellent) but could go again.
Linkoping looks good too?

All & any advice gladly taken

regards

You could go to:
Laeso EKLS nice island, book a bicycle in advance and ask them to deliver it to the airport.
Höganäs ESMH on a tuesday evening for their usually well-attended fish FlyIn. Rent a car in town to drive to Mölle and Kullaberg.
Varberg ESGV short runway by the sea, but one of very few airfields with their own restaurant (and several others within walking/biking distance).
Fjällbacka ESTF the town’s harbor is a postcard. Climb to the top of the rock and admire the western archipelago.
Ålleberg ESGC short runway on the top of a hill. Restaurant and small cabins on site, and a sailplane museum (Ålleberg is a big flight training location in Sweden).
Visingsö ESSI island on the lake Vättern. Beware the golfers on the 9-hole course set between the runways.
Borglanda ESMB the main town on Öland. Rent a bike at the flying club, check out the downtown, the old castle ruin, or say hello to the King at the nearby smaller castle. Note that the other 2 airports on Öland (Sandvik ESFS and Ölanda ESMZ) can be nice too if you’re into laidback fishing villages.
Visby ESSV really nice old town with the protection wall still mostly intact, within 20’ walking distance from the GA parking at the flying club. The Middle Age festival is August 7-14, funny event but check hotels before.
Bunge ESVB there is an aviation museum, but check to opening hours.
Stegeborg ESVE old castle ruin to visit, nice restaurant by the sea, and you can stay in the manor up the hill.

I’ll let the other Swedes give you recommendations for further north the country.

ESMK, Sweden

For Copenhagen plan for EKRK and not EKCH (expensive).
https://www.rke.dk/en

From EKRK you can take the bus to Roskilde that also has a Viking ship museum. From Roskilde you can take the train to Copenhagen.

While you are in the Danish and Swedish areas I can recommend visiting Bornholm (Island south from Sweden). The airport is EKRN and is GA friendly.

Then of course the “Best restaurant in the world”, Geranium, is also in Copenhagen. But you probably have to book well ahead.

Then there is the Danish Museum of Science and Technology that has some airplanes in the exhibition. It is located in the same city as the famous Kronborg castle from Hamlet.

EKRK, Denmark

From EKRK you can take the bus to Roskilde

I was told that bus goes from the other side of the airport. How do you get to it? A taxi to Roskilde is £30 – £40!

Otherwise, most excellent GA airport.

First post from me here as well.

Lots of nice places to visit in Denmark and Sweden.

In terms of air museums there is Flygvapenmuseum in Linköping. It’s located at Malmen which does not allow for civilian traffic unfortunately. The aero club in Linköping is located at Saab/Linköping City airport on the other side of the city. The airport is closed until August 19 though so keep that in mind. PPR obtained the aero clubs website. Quite a few fellow RVs at the airport.

There is also Aeroseum at Säve in Gothenburg, F15 air museum in Söderhamn, F10 air museum in Ängelholm, and Västerås flygmuseum to name a few that I can think of.

I’ll also second Arnes recommendations. You should visit Höganäs if you’re in area for the weekly Flygfisk. Accommodation is available in the club house and there is no landing fee.

Hi All

Thanks for your excellent suggestions.

So far we need to be in Copenhagen for the 19th so will arrive at Roskilde on the 18th and leave 20th.
Sat 20th probably going to Gothenberg Save or Trollhatten, or Backamo maybe. Save sounds interesting for the air museum there.

After that Hoganas is somewhere I’ve nearly been before but the weather was poor. We went to Roskilde then too!

How is Ska-Edeby ESSE? looks good fro a day or two in Stockholm. Better than Bromma from SkyDemon reviews?

ESSE is your typical VFR GA grass airfield a bit outside the city, while ESSB is a full service commercial city airport where the management is not really happy with GA – although they’re said to be better than they were a few years ago.

Backamo is very nice and friendly but it would be a pain in the ass to get into Gothenburg from there. Säve is probably the best but Borås(ESGE) would be a good option as well where you should be able to go by bus to Borås and then continue to Gothenburg. Borås is a very friendly GA airport.

Skå-Edeby is the best option for a couple of days in Stockholm. They have fuel but you must arrange for someone to help you with it. Italso good to talk to them if you want to arrive/depart very early or late since the access gate might be closed. Usually not a problem though.

You can go by bus from close to the field but with the money you save from not landing at Bromma you can get a taxi. Should be around 50-60 euros to get to central town. Be aware that the taxi driver will not have a clue where the airfield is.

Also be aware that there is no regulation of taxi fares in Sweden. With major taxi companies this will not be a problem but with smaller or one-man companies, you run a substantial risk of being ripped off.

Use Uber/Lyft if available. It’s the same taxi drivers but at lower prices. If getting into a taxi from the road, request a quote to your destination.

Also, visit ESME. We might not have the best views or the best city, but there is a self-service fuel pump, tarmac, lights, and no landing/parking fee!
