Recommendation for an FAA AME in the south east UK

One can search for FAA AMEs here. I can see 26.

One of them has definitely retired, and another one is believed to have packed it in years ago. Dr Justin Flatt appears to be in N Ireland, not Crawley.

The Q is which of these are known to anyone here as being reasonable. There are various weird things going on in the AME business. Also most European based AMEs have no experience, nor any interest, in any “nontrivial” clients.

My FAA is not piggyback so am guessing still need to renew?

Yes; standlone FAA licenses need an FAA medical, if flying outside the license+medical issuing country. See e.g. here.

I have got my FAA medical done here.

Like everyone else, they are busy, after Dr Orton’s retirement.

Reflecting on this, it is best to use different AMEs for CAA and FAA. It will cost you more, but when he/she retires, you get screwed into rapid action (rapid, because you never find out until too late) only once, not twice Also, a change of AME triggers a much more detailed examination of everything you’ve got, including paperwork

Pilots normally avoid going to any AME within 1000nm of Gatwick but I think this firm is good. Certainly very efficient.
