I once took my non-pilot father for lunch to an airfield in southern UK, joining base (instead of overhead) which attracted the wrathful ire of a based instructor. Instead of addressing the skinny kid, he strode up and delivered his lecture to the bad-tempered middle-aged man (who, furthermore, had just suffered a severe disappointment upon inspection of the lunch menu). The instructor didn’t know what hit him
