GA charities

10 Posts

I looked for this on the forum but couldn’t find anything.

Let’s say you have a four seater and a PPL, what can you do for your fellow men (and for advocating GA :p) ?

Some countries have a civil air patrol.
In France, the only charity I know is « Rêves de gosses » which offers discovery flights for sick or disabled kids.
[I read their stuff, you need to book 10 days, pay 2+k€ to the charity (flight time not included) in order to take the kids. And their fleet is limited to 22 aircraft so I guess it’s quickly filled.]

Any ideas ?

The UK CAA have exemptions allowing “charity flights” i.e. you, the pilot, pay all the cost of the flight and the passenger pay a registerd charity. It says pay but it could be like buying raffle tickets, …. . The exemption is that the CAA doesn’t consider it a commercial flight so you can do it without CPL and AOC. See CAP1330. local copy

So if your local village hall/school have a raffle for their fete or a charity you support have an auction dinner, you can voluteer a flight in your a/c as a prize.

I did some flights for them. You have to pay yourself for the flight, but some airports don‘t charge their fees.

Along Aerobility for power pilots, the UK BGA runs charity flights for disabled with many local gliding clubs now having access to two seater gliders that are designed for handicapped pilots and tend to be local events, some end up well accomplished gliders pilots

Also, Air League (by BGA & Boeing) offers for younger students in deprived neighbours

https://www.stichtinghoogvliegers.nl/ – I had the privilege of flying for them until I felt I was not up to the responsibility anymore although it was by far the most rewarding flying I have done.

This video is less about the flying than about the passenger. Highly worth it.
