depends very much on how tough the gear is. A C182 with its insect legs likely breaks them and dissipates energy. My Beech has the same gear as its twin brother, the Baron. Very rigid. Most people in the Beech community suggest to land with the gear up unless landing is really safe with gear down. Gives you less roll, ahem, glide distance.
