I see he shot it using time lapse photography (it's not a movie) but it is very smooth. I wonder if he used some frame interpolation. I tried to do this sort of thing and failed miserably... e.g. doing an in-flight movie by taking a photo once per second and then merging them into a 25fps movie (i.e. a 25x speedup). The result was very jumpy.
Peter, time lapse works because the camera position is fixed and the object moves. Not the other way round. There are ways to combine the two, but it gets rather tricky.
Anyway this is pretty stunning stuff !!
