If you activate VtF on the 430W you get a nice magenta line on the runway centerline…..no need to use OBS mode
How far out does that line extend? Does it run only FAF-MAP or does it run all the way off the GPS screen? The OBS mode gives me the latter (in the KLN94/KMD550). The OBS feature fails to work with a King GPS and a Garmin (or possibly Avidyne) MFD, or vice versa, and has been the subject of many “conversations” with confused avionics reps 
After VTF the line runs off the screen.
On which product?
G1000 and the x30 garmins. From memory it creates something like a 30nm final track.
