When a metal structure that has not been built with crumple zones hides something it resists than snaps or bends offering very little energy absorption while being disrupted, in the same situation composites ( like wood ) continue to absorb energy while the disruprution is taking place. This an intended feature of some composite aircraft in the cirrus it Is prohibited to put anything in the void below the seats as the seats are designed to deform into this space to absorb the impact.
