Smilies and other emoticons - now allowed

This is Chrome on Chrome OS (Chromebook), and they definitely show. Donโ€™t know about Chrome on Win X

Another thing. There is another way, much more concise, to enter smileys from a Chromebook. Use Shift+search+space and a small window of all the possible smileys pops up. Much more practical than using the virtual keyboard.

or should I say:
๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I wonder how many people here can actually SEE the smileys above correctly?

I am seeing lots being posted in the forum which definitely do not show up in Chrome on a PC, although this is on win7 and they do show on win10.

Maybe we are just ahead of the technology?

I think there will always be some emoticons which will not show on any PC browser, but which exist on phones etc. So this facility needs to be used with care.

At least the server wonโ€™t throw up that error message now.

Do you mean it crashed an old iPhone?

Iโ€™ve tried it and it seems to work. What case didnโ€™t it work for?

I doubt this will be a problem unless someone has an old iPhone or something.

Yeah but who wants to pay for the man-hours to do that?

We are donation-funded. And nobody is working on EuroGA for nothing.

If quoting emoticon-containing messages is not possible then we will have to restore the previous database and forget this whole thing โ€“ because once people can use emoticons they will use them all over the place

Allowing all Unicode chars also allows huge amounts of invisible chars. But this can be filtered, of course, having a set of allowed chars.

So you are saying that quoted text is broken if it contains UTF-8 emoticons?
