This is on the UK GA chat sites now.
The other complaint is that if you didn’t bring yours, they sell you one in the terminal for €15 so you can get back to your plane.
Such a bul***it with the yellow jackets.
Some months ago was in Kiel EDHK. When leaving the plane there was one from airport staff and I asked him whether the jackets are needed here. Said nah, don’t worry. So we left them in the plane.
When we came back in a hurry some days later the woman in the tower didn’t let me enter the airfield. Quite upset, anf she had let me wait some precious time, and after some discussion she finally would let me go to the plane without jacket. After that we had about 15 minutes left to get airborne. I’m not sure that this promotes safety 🤬
Just always take them along. That’s all about it.
I suppose that there is probably a market for a super lightweight and super thin hiviz jacket that can be folded into a tiny pouch and put into your pocket without taking up much space.
It wouldnt be durable or long lasting, but you could leave it permanently in your jacket pocket and avoid these situations.
Or maybe a fluorescent T-shirt you wear underneath your clothes when you go fly, just in case.

Not bad but I suspect it can be done smaller and lighter if willing to sacrifice durability. Something like a space blanket.
And the cost is way too much.
I hadn’t checked for a while, but the airport website seems to have changed.
It does not mention yellow jackets, but it mentions to send customs information 2h before, is that new? Couldnt find anything related on notams or aip though.

Alway been there, it’s just (almost) no one is following this through (including the authorities).

Why do you want the full size one? Just two high-viz arm bans and a high-viz belt, and that’s it!
You could probably find something small enough to be put into 1×5cm container and attached to a key chain. :)

Yes – “bike gear” is overpriced Also I am not sure airports would accept a “minimal” shape like that.
fluorescent T-shirt
I’ve often wondered why a yellow or orange T-shirt is not acceptable, but – while I have not tested this personally – I think the anally retarded people who insist on hi-viz clothing would not accept it. They are a “different” personality from the rest I often wear bright t-shirts and they were never accepted.

It is at least a few years old but is not actually needed. I have several times asked the police there about it and they said they don’t need it because they are always there during AD HRS. OTOH, one report on one UK chat site said somebody got told off for not filing it… but looking at some other stuff posted there I suspect that is BS. I haven’t done it for years. I used to just CC that address on the GAR email.
Yellow jackets are not that big a deal and fold up into almost nothing, but it is something else to remember, and if you can walk to the terminal without one (which clearly you can since nobody is watching you at that point – only the tower has apron visibility) then you might get caught out on the way back out. Still not as bad as other centres of human anal behaviour e.g. Alderney where they have taken this to a fine art.
I’ve just phoned LFAT and yes they want the jackets so that part is true.
For those who object to yellow, they accept pink, too :)
I’m at LFAT for a few days if someone is around.
For a few years now yellow vests have been mandatory in cars (one per person). They are very cheap IIRC €2. When it first became the rule alongside triangles many insurance companies gave them out on request. They weigh nothing and are not much more than a handkerchief in your pocket. Mind you not many people wear them at airfields unless some officials are around. Eg DSAC checkers. Then airfield staff say “of course we always enforce their wearing airside”. 🙂
