Longest day fly in 2024 - on German airfields on islands and coast, 22. June 2024 (and DE-only)

Sure; you have to pay to view it – one way or another.

German VFR AIP threads and one suggests the AIP will become accessible in 2023.

Hi Peter,

The Gernan AIP VFR is now accessible for free.

OK; thanks. I am updating this thread.

I pay skydemon for it, as I think the georeferencing is worth it, but this web page gets them for free in a fairly painless way:

Do none of them have C+I per AIP?
Unfortunately no island except Sylt. Emden (EDWE), which is the nearest airfield to the German islands, says “O/R” but according to their webpage, it does actually mean they want a (chargeable) exception permit. Coming from the UK, I think your best option to clear immigration and customs is Groningen (EHGG) or maybe another Dutch aerodrome. Even Münster-Osnabrück (EDDG) would also be an option, especially because they’re cheap and quite GA-friendly.

Is there any evidence of enforcement? Loads of non GE speakers have been to some.
AFAIK, no. Dutch pilots flying to GE-only airfields all the time using English phraseology. They might be naive, but never heard of any enforcement, at least not in NRW or other parts of northern Germany. It’s not the same as “FR-only” in France. Even if the Flugleiter on duty doesn’t speak much English, most of them will still manage to say the active runway in English numbers.

I am interested too in meeting some of you that evening, PH-TDI from EHLE. How can we make this more concrete; move it to ad hoc flyin thread?

I think we should decide about the airfield. I recommend Juist EDWJ. Short way to the beach (accessible with dog) and nice airport restaurant.

EDDS , Germany

+1 for EDWJ. Let’s hope for VMC.

so a meet-up there will be possible even without an overnight stay.

Yes but you need long opening hours on both sides of the flight. So as we still have only few places with “Fliegen ohne Flugleiter” I’m not sure this will change a lot.

Shame I won’t be able to attend due to calendar clash: beach, bike and horse-drwan carriage are very inviting (marketing to convince PAX for going up north)

Alas, it seems that all the island airports participating are GE only

I never had issue talking English (or basic German: no GLP/BZF) in “GE only” airfields
I only done it with light traffic around, so I wasn’t speaking that much
