Elba LIRJ Fly-In 2023 - last before it closes?

Surprisingly, zero interest. Such a great destination.

Of course, Elba is a jewel destination
Was there mid April, and we had a fantastic time there.

Since we are doing Spain in late Sep, perhaps Elba early Sep?

Having 1 fly-out a year looks challenging enough.
2 a year is even more challenging, but 2 in the same month LOL 🤣

PS
Still, I’d go (it’s a quickie from my place) if it happens.

ain't the Destination, but the Journey

I might do a trip to Greece (Chios) in early September and do Elba on the way back from there. It’s not far off-route and one can fly LIRJ-EGKA direct no problem.

Organising fly-outs is hard nowadays. A small group is nice enough though.

OK. Let’s return to this in a couple of months’ time. Does anyone know when Elba is likely to close? @africaneagle ?

I repeat my observation made on Forum page:

The venue must, I believe, be a ‘Tour In’ as well as a ‘Fly In’. This is particularly to attract partners.
The distance must be reasonably flyable for low-hour pilots to attract.

I can hardly think of a better “tour in” than Elba

Unless you mean organising a bus for the wives non-flying partners, taking people somewhere. That’s a bit risky for a fly-in unless considerable money is being collected up front. For EuroGA that is simply a no-go.

As regards distance, Elba is very accessible for all of “central Europe”. Low hour pilots would be OK because you don’t need to cross the Alps. Just fly down to Nice and turn left. I did that here and here is another Elba report.

As I said above, let’s return to this in a couple of months’ time.

Bumping this thread the final time.

Any interest in Elba this summer?

Digging around whether it is likely to close has yielded absolutely nothing from the many Italian pilots here. Sounds like complete nonsense.

Great destination though.

If I find plane and time, would be a pleasure!

I think we’ll be going, but actually on a rather short term notice…

Germany

OK so we have

UdoR
Emir
Me
Dan
Greg_mp

That is a GO!

I won’t create a tg group yet because we want to keep it here, and many people won’t use tg.

Any preferences on date range? Remember Spain is end of Sep.

Accommodation can be tricky in August while July in Italy is less crowded in general.
