Wanted: Flight Guides for USA, Caribbean and Mexico

Hello,

in preparation for a longer USA, Caribbean and South America trip, I am looking for good flight guides with information on entry requirements and airports, initially for USA and the Caribbean (in particular: Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico).

The flight guides (ebook preferred) should at least provide info on:

- Entry requirements for pax and EASA registered aircraft.
- customs regulations
- Handling: mandatory, if yes, amount of costs
- Amount of overnight parking fees
- Avgas availability and amount of costs
- special rules and procedures
- Arrival and departure options from / to the airport by road

Well known are Flight Guides for the Caribbean e.g. from AOPA or this one:

https://www.aopa.org/travel/international-travel/bahamas-and-caribbean-pilots-guides

https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pspages/caribbean13-15003.php

Are there others? Do you know other good sources? In the further process of course the respective AIP will be used, but for the moment and the rough planning I would like to start with the flight guides.

Thanks!

Airnav.com is an excellent resource when flying in the US with airport specific information. If you are flying into smaller airfields, I suggest calling in advance to confirm availability of fuel and payment method. Most airfields have moved to a self-service pump which accepts credit cards but not all.

Foreflight is also an awesome resource if you don’t already have a subscription.

ForeFlight with Jepps will have details on entry requirements, handlings and few pireps on costs and Avgas, their coverage extends to Carribean & Mexico and they are very reliable in GA hotspots (Bahamas, Cozumel/Cancun, US Virgins)

Mexico & USA both have eAPIS & MxAPIS, they work like UK GAR where you fill in all details on website or spreadsheet for notifying immigration & customs, then you can have a FlashPass on your phone, both countries expect you to land on first port of entry airports along your route with some leeway, there are “cruise permit” to sort out before flying or on arrival: I think Mexico costs 80$, Bahamas costs 50$, you will need one to overfly Cuba and I am sure other countries have something of that sort

If you go via Florida you can visit few pilot shops that have printed guides, but by then it’s too late to plan also you can buy & rent few items: raft, vests, knifes, flashlights, satellite locator beacons, radios, strobes, water, food, flares, mirror, the “survival food packs” are tasty when you land in some remote strips and not a soul or restaurant is around

These guys offer a full package !

In case you need some Caribbean advice, PM me. I‘ve got about 40h from Florida to Tobago including most islands in between

Someone recommended this website a few years ago, but I never left Florida so can’t vouch for it: https://www.caribbeanflyingadventures.com/
