Thanks for all the very informative inputs. Money is not a big driver, but of course it counts. And of course, when and if I get an aviation job I don’t want to pay to fly, otherwise I do it in my own free time and my aircraft. :D In Belgium, where I will move after retirement, and live until my wife also decides to stop working, most of FIs are not paid, though they fly for free and can chose their own schedule. This might be an option. I think I will start with the “fun” ratings first, night, Basic IR and UPRT. Then aerobatic in power and sail planes. And with this I already have some goals for the next few years. I always need to have goals to achieve and with gliders it is easier, but with power planes is not so obvious, that’s why gaining different ratings is attractive to me. If on top of that, would lead me to a potential career 2.0 – even better! But if it’s not case it will not be the end of the world for me.
