GNS430W to GTN650xi? or GTN750xi?

Has anyone done this upgrade recently? other than screen size any reason why to go with 650 vs 750?

Not in a hurry but in 5 years 430w will become obsolete and getting something new is better…

If you have the panel space available, I would recommend the GTN 750xi with an FS 510 and one of the Garmin audio panels that support Push to Command so you can use it to operate the GTN verbally.

That would be the plan but maybe in 2 years

Did you opt for remote transponder?

No, I already had a GTX330 not ES and a GDL88. In the US, many installed the GTX330 to get the Mode S TIS feature which provided an early traffic advisory system before ADS-B was available. I did not upgrade to ES because I was an early adopter of UAT based GDL88 for ADS-B Out with dual frequency In capability. If I had it to do over, I would install a GTX 345, maybe even one with Diversity. I prefer having the GTX with its own panel mount interface. I did install a GMA35C remote audio panel, primarily because I ran out of vertical space in my avionics stack.

I did upgrade of my 430W to GTN650 (non-xi). Unit is great and provide “visual approaches”.
I don’t like that everything is by “touch”. GNS430 was easier to operate with physical buttons but ok…
I have done some installation’s for my customers of 750Xi’s with GMA35 integrated audiopanels and remote transponders. Nice toys however during turbulence touchscreen is not what I like :)

If you go to such of navigator think directly of GI275 or at least G5 HSI. You will have awesome eHSI with all features needed.

It shouldn’t be. You can issue most commands to the GTN by voice, and/or by twiddling the knobs if that’s what you prefer.

You can when you have gma350 and I haven’t.
Xi have a bit improved knob-action if compared to non-xi however fact is fact. To zoom map for example I need to operate touchscreen and when turbulent it makes sometimes fun.

For sure Im gonna add physical CDI button and terrain inhibit.

I replaced dual GNS430W by GTN750+650… shortly before the Xi were announced :-|

I opted for remote audio panel and remote transponder, mainly/purely for available panel space reason.

No reason at all (except a bit of cost…) to opt for GTN650 instead of GTN750 if not for panel space reasons.

That sounds like the way to think of it

Sounds like 2:2 problem not 1:2 problem

Why not just swap in an IFD440 when the 430w fails?
