Windy.com - an amazing wind and weather visualisation site

On renewing my subscription to my App WeatherProHD, a part of the German MeteoGroup, I see that they now have links to active Webcams in a large variety of sites.
Some of these crossover with Windy.com; but with 400 employees constantly updating the information there are no broken links.
I have used this App consistently for weather and have always found it accurate and detailed. With this addition, it is even more useful.

Windy now has IFR/VFR planning, showing weather in route, and even showing weather changes during the trip! Try with a slow speed to see the effect even better.

Couldn‘t find the options on the iPad within the app. Has anybody tried it?

It’s a new feature, the app always lag behind the web version as testing and releasing new features on the web is faster and simpler. Not to mention the ease of rolling back or hot fixing for bugs, not so easy for deployed apps.

You can now upload Skydemon’s route (*.flightplan file) directly into Windy’s plugin – Fligt Planner:

It will show you vertical atmosphere cut based on ECMWF weather model:

Thanks for sharing this! Was using the Windy app for years, but didn’t know nothing about those new features. What an improvement!

Out of curiosity; is there a practically relevant difference of Windy Premium over the basic version?

The main noticeable difference to me is the higher time resolution of forecasts (1h vs 3h I believe).

I also think that the value-for-money ratio is so much higher than some other aviation weather products that I personally think it’s a non-brainer to support them, especially after reading this:

I have paid for the mobile app as I got the impression it doesn’t work properly otherwise. But there is no login involved AFAICT so when I run it on a laptop, I am probably not getting the paid version. How does one copy the mobile app authentication to the windoze version?

Definitely it should be supported because it has transformed GA forecasting. Not so much due to the graphics (fancy graphics have been around since the original Meteoblue, ~15 years ago, which was almost totally useless) but because it presents the European ECMWF model which is more accurate than GFS, and is probably similar to the UK Met Office model which is “top secret” except for a few bits like the MSLP charts.

fully agree. i was just wondering if there really is a noticeable difference, so far i have considered the fees as ‘charity’ over ‘user fees for enhanced usability’ ;-)
