CIME card in France - a mandatory crew certificate?

Perhaps they should also do like some Central and South American countries. If you arent wearing a pilots Uniform… WITH…. Stripes you cant get airside even though they just saw you coming from there. As unbelievable as it sounds its a true story.

or to get your aircraft based there

t was to get an airside badge for an aeroclub there. When I had a plane based there, I just paid for the badge and got it – no formalities. But that was in 2021. It may have changed since.

Visitors can (or could anyway) access through the security gate, by showing a pilot licence. That worked in 2021, but I don’t know whether it still works now.

AOPA FR say the have now got it sorted, so I guess I’m about to join.

Where does that leave non-French pilots? (or indeed French pilots who aren’t in AOPA France).

Will we all need compulsory handling?

I have no idea. I didn’t know anything about this at all until a couple of hours ago when I started to follow this thread.

By the way don’t bother trying to join AOPA France. Just went through the login and membership creation process. At the end it asks you to pay, I chose Paypal, and it has been stuck saying “Uploading, please wait…” ever since. It seems to be complaining that I haven’t attache an identity photo – although I have.

I am sure French pilots will sort this. It’s all done with political contacts. And they have a very well run club organisation with… political contacts.

The interesting Q will be how this affects visiting pilots.

@nestor may know more.

You mean the FFA? There has been nothing from them so far, though who knows what is going on behind the scenes.

aside from few exceptions, FFA members rarely fly to airliners airports who are or will be implementing this

The main concern with this is for pilots flying to ILS CAT-I instrument runway (read COHOR slots and PPF to clear customs while getting driven in a minivan or escorted by the handlers), in other words IFR pilots who ‘play airlines’ (as someone said in another topic), I think AOPA France plan to handle it as the acting body but there is likely lot of personal information to be shared

In small GA airports without airliners, I don’t think this is an issue: they don’t even have money to hire full time AFIS let alone install biometric readers or hire security

But there are aeroclubs based at such airports, e.g. Biarritz and Bordeaux. Although the members will have adequate passes for their home airports.

Although the members will have adequate passes for their home airports.

Those are the exceptions I was referring to but they are “already sorted” (because they have airside doors that do not exist)

The problem is Biarritz ACB guys will have issue going to Bordeaux but they never go…
