Russian invasion of Ukraine

We have some special rules for this thread, in addition to the normal EuroGA Guidelines. The basic one is that EuroGA will not be a platform for pro Russian material. For that, there are many sites on the internet. No anti Western posts. Most of us live in the "West" and enjoy the democratic and material benefits. Non-complying posts will be deleted and, if the poster is a new arrival, he will be banned.

Not everyone thinks that Ukraine would have been defeated by now. It is likely that Ukraine would still have prevented a total Russian invasion, but at a much greater cost to itself.

Ukraine is fighting for its country. Russians are fighting for… what?

Yes, but that is because the west supported Ukraine. Otherwise we would see a very different story.

So what? The west supports the west, it’s normally called NATO Russia attacking Poland or the Baltic states will never happen because of NATO. War is not some kind of academic game. There is only one reason to start, or engage in a war, and that is to win. This is sometimes forgotten, even by the west, and the result is always lots of misery for nothing.

No western forces is fighting in Ukraine. It’s Ukraine forces against Russian forces. Ukraine receives western military equipment, but the operation is 100% Ukraine. It’s not that the Ukraine soldiers are the best soldiers in the world, but what they lack in competence, they make up for in morale. They also survive, and are getting better and better, the Russians don’t. The entire Russian military is a complete mess, it’s rotten to the core, from the bottom to the top.

Russia has (with Putin) fallen back to their, at least 100 year tradition of forcefully taking neighboring countries. This was not OK 100 years ago, and is not OK today. The basic logic of war is still the same though. Russia appears to be in no shape to win this war.

If it weren’t for Russias nuclear weapons, the west would long since have gotten involved in this war (and rightfully so) and the Russians would have been pushed back deeply into their own core territories and face a reckoning similar to that of Nazi Germany in 1945, with Nuremberg-styleTrials to go after the war criminals of Butcha, Izjum et cetera.

What if Ukraine kept it’s nuke arsenal in 2001? (Ukraine was the 3rd nuclear power in world after Russia, US in 1991)

Budapest memorandum is sad reminder for any country not to trust their independence, integrity and freedom to the others. Being one of co-signers of this treaty, Russia broke every international law invading Crimea in 2014. Lack of Western reaction at that moment led to current invasion.

Reportedly 10M people have left Russia since their invasion of Ukraine started in Feb 2022.

It’s like Czechoslovakia 1968 (we left in 1969) only vastly bigger.

We are essentially fighting the US’s War against Russia and we are paying the price.
With the referendum and the possible annexation of the eastern territories, Russia’s military doctrine will come into play.
That will change the equation. Never poke the bear

There is no war against Russia. The referenda are bullshit, and won’t change anything. Your army will get their asses handed by the Ukrainians. If you attack NATO, your whole military will cease to exist. The mobilization is an ethnic cleansing and will result in the deaths of another 100.000 people, and three times that in injuries. Even more poor guys will die a senseless death. And for what ? Nobody wants a war, only a couple of criminals in your government, trying to be csar. The nuclear threat is a hoax, and everybody knows it.

There is no bear. Just a criminal ex-KGB goon trying to stay in power. Get rid of him soon and stop writing bullshit on the internet.

Exactly.

This war may well be the end of any non-distribution treaty for nukes, as it is abundantly clear that only who has nukes can be relatively sure not to be invaded by people who do. That sets the anti nuclear intent back at least 25 years I’m afraid.

⚡️An ultimatum is being prepared for Ukraine, and martial law and a complete travel ban are being prepared for the Russians

We became aware of the action plan of the leadership of the Russian Federation after September 27th. As long as it looks like this. After the closing of polling stations in the LDNR, the Kherson region and the occupied part of Zaporozhye, the Russian Federation will put forward an obviously unacceptable ultimatum to Ukraine. Since the results of the “referendums” are already known, one of the main points will be the “immediate cessation of aggression against the citizens and territories of the Russian Federation.” Another point is “immediate withdrawal of Ukrainian armed formations from the territories of the Russian Federation that became part of it based on the results of the free expression of will of the citizens of these territories.” That is, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will have to stop the war and withdraw troops from the Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. In the case of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, we are not talking about the occupied territories, but about the regions as a whole. The Russian Federation will give from one to three days to fulfill these requirements. The ultimatum can be announced both immediately on the evening of September 27, and after the signing of all the necessary documents on the entry of the occupied territories into the Russian Federation (tentatively on September 29-30). In case of non-compliance with the requirements, the Russian Federation reserves the right to “tough actions”. One of these actions could be a blow to the dams on the Dnieper, which we wrote about here. Massive shelling of Ukrainian cities and infrastructure is possible. Other actions will be aimed at trying to intimidate NATO and the EU. There will be many words and threats about the use of nuclear weapons. Demonstrative exercises will begin in the Kaliningrad region and in the North (everything is almost ready for them, according to our information). Putin, Lavrov and everyone else will say that Russia will be forced to start a war, using all available means of destruction, in order to defend its territorial integrity. Ukraine will be called an aggressor country. It is clear that these monkey tricks will not deceive anyone in Europe and the USA. They are aimed at the internal Russian audience, which rejoices when they hear how their country threatens someone and, moreover, launches rockets somewhere with impunity. In addition, all Putin’s rhetoric will help the future mobilized to accept their fate not just humbly, but even with pleasure. Since the president said that we were attacked, it means that it is so, we don’t know everything and are not interested in politics, but he has intelligence, military, state secrets there. Well, since they attacked, then it is necessary to defend the Motherland, what to do. We are not such, Life is so. So far, only Nikolai Patrushev insists on closing the borders. The presidential administration, Chemezov, Timchenko, Kovalchuk, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Naryshkin are convinced that there is no problem in keeping the borders open. Those who run from the mobilization will be able to leave. Such people, according to the estimates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB, are no more than 150-170 thousand. These figures will not affect the performance of mobilization at all. There is a risk that arguments in favor of keeping the borders open will not play a role if Putin decides to go all the way. Then the exit from the country can be closed at any time from September 28 to October 5-7. It will be closed until the end of the war. As usual, when everything depends on Putin’s decision, it is impossible to say with certainty which option he will choose. We will not give advice to those who cannot decide whether to stay or leave. The situation is different for everyone, the character and will, too. We can only say one thing with certainty. It will not work to sit and hide while remaining in Russia.
