Flying in Germany with BZF E

EDDL might be GA friendly overall.
But please check the fee schedule vs the model of aircraft you intend to use !
While the landing fees are generally ok for an international airport, certain types trigger excessive noise penalties (for LDG and TO, separately charged).
TB20 and SR22 are amongst those…
Make sure to check beforehand.

PS for details: look up separate thread about EDDL vs EDLN

EDM_, Germany

Might well be, have no experience there. Speaking of which, EDDH is highly recommended.

Yes, I omitted EDDM, EDDF, EDDB and EDDL because I don’t think it is practical place for a VFR GA flight.

I have in mind EDDL being a very (VFR) GA-friendly place. Not sure whether that has changed recently? Else I would actually recommend going there.

Can you do a list of the ones where it cannot be used?

Yes, I omitted EDDM, EDDF, EDDB and EDDL because I don’t think it is practical place for a VFR GA flight. Of course you can speak English on their frequencies.

Yes, but I’ve included EDXN which is the airfield within ETMN.

Are there exceptions?

ESKC (Uppsala/Sundbro), Sweden

Ive flown into 2 airfields on that list when nobody was answering the radio in the evening.
(I just self announced what I was doing)
After I landed, at least 3 other aeroplanes came in before darkness fell at one of them.

I also know that I have landed at other aerodromes than are on that list using English.
Pretty sure not all of them were PPR, just stated hours of operation & I pitched up.

FTAOD, nobody at the aerodrome commented after any of the above.

Regards, SD..

I haven’t checked for myself, but the percentage feels right.
The reason for not offering English all the time might be that the airfield operator would have to ensure that only people with English RT privileges (aka BZF I or AZF) man the radio at that field. At club fields, where the Flugleiter tends to be a retired guy with lots of free time, this might be difficult, as many of these do not speak any English. But if you still want to be accessible, you put in “English PPR” so they can send someone who actually speaks English.

Nordholz-Spieka (EDXN) is officially bilingual, by the way ;)
